At Home | Session 03 – Shreya Josh
A Stick and Poke Tattoo Workshop with Shreya Josh
For our next session, we’re joined by Shreya Josh—an artist from New Delhi whose journey with art began in childhood and has only grown more personal and powerful over the years. Formally trained in realistic drawing, Shreya’s style today leans toward the playful and the imperfect: messy lines, bold ideas, and a deep commitment to self-expression.
While studying in Chicago, Shreya discovered the intimate world of stick and poke tattoos—a form of body art rooted in connection, community, and care. In 2017, she brought this practice back to India through her project Paradise Tender, creating a space where handpoke tattoos became not just a service but a conversation, a collaboration, and a celebration of individuality.
Body art, for Shreya, is a ritual of empowerment. From tattoos to piercings, hair color to tooth gems, she’s used her own skin as a canvas to honour transformation, self-love, and joy. Over time, she’s evolved her tattooing practice to include both handpoke and machine techniques—blending the soft precision of handpoke with the fluid lines of the machine for work that’s delicate, detailed, and built to last.
This session is your chance to explore the world of stick and poke in a supportive, hands-on setting. Learn the basics of the technique on fruit peels, understand the tools, and leave with a deeper appreciation of the stories our bodies can hold.
