our approach

In depth research is of paramount importance to understand the community we wish to work with – the people, place, and context. This allows us to conceive, develop and launch relevant technical solutions accordingly in association with key partners and stakeholders.

During June to September 2018, G5A cityLAB conducted a mapping study wherein Worli Koliwada community members were met to know more about their lifestyle, challenges, aspirations, their relationship with their immediate neighborhood and their community. We also gathered information on the available civic services and amenities with respect to solid waste management and sanitation at the site.

milestones achieved:

•  Audit of entire Worli Koliwada (around 65 acre land)

•  Survey of the pilot site comprising of more than 1500 households

reconnect

At G5A we are all about community and culture!

This essence reflects in our approach towards all our programs and projects. The cornerstone for the longstanding success of any socio-developmental project is community awareness – their engagement, buy-in and collective participation.

our approach

Through different workshops and outreach avenues, our focus throughout the project remains:

  • building a rapport and relationship with the community
  • bringing the community together
  • creating a safe space for expression
  • empowering them with soft and hard skills
  • enabling the participants to explore and discover their own identity and voice in context of their life, neighborhood and the project

An 8000-person strong community, members of the Worli Koliwada today form a low-income group, with a prominent urban legacy whose significance has faded over time. Our project will positively impact all village residents with a specific focus on

•  active fisher folk

•  community women involved with the fishing trade

•  self-help groups

•  youngsters in the village

Till date, we have reached out to 1000+ community members through more than 30 meetings, workshops, awareness sessions. The engagement has been with a mixed demographic – children, youth, women and men .
