Judhajit Bagchi

Judhajit Bagchi, Mumbai-based director, producer, cinematographer, and editor, hails from the quaint historical town of Serampore, nestled along the banks of the Ganges, not far from the city of joy, Kolkata. The ethos of his birthplace profoundly influences his work, instilling in him a deep appreciation for the minute details of nature and life, as well as a strong belief in love, kindness and higher power. These values are evident in his creative expressions, where striking visuals and emotionally resonant stories come naturally to him.

Alongside his partner Ranadeep Bhattacharyya, Judhajit co-founded Yaanus Films, a National Award-winning film and visual arts studio based in Mumbai (www.yaanusfilms). The studio is known for its acclaimed short films, including Amen—a powerful exploration of gender, sexuality, and child abuse—and Children of the Soil, an experimental piece on farmers’ suicides in India, depicted through clay sculptures.

With over a decade of experience in advertising, the duo has earned the Cannes Dolphin twice for their advertising and brand films. In 2022, their feature film script Kal Baisakhi was officially selected as one of the top 20 projects at the Co-Production Market, Film Bazaar Goa.

With over 70 national and international accolades in film and photography, Judhajit and Ranadeep have also been the only Indian filmmakers to chair the jury for the London Fashion Film Festival since 2019 and are members of the International cultural organization, The Institute for Experimental Arts, EU. Their fine art exhibition is currently on display with The Little Black Gallery, UK, while they are working on their debut feature film.
