Zero Period

Taking inspiration from the zero show and the zero periods we had in school, we dedicate a time in the year for experimentation and exploration. We are strong proponents of rigour and riyaaz; we know that it takes hard work, long hours, and many, many iterations in order to create something we can all be proud of. We also believe in the power of collaboration and working together in an environment that is safe, patient, and encouraging.

Therefore, during the monsoon months of the Bombay year, we take a step back from having public showings at the G5A Black Box and reserve it for rehearsals of all kinds: the beginnings of a performance, the final few touches before the grand opening, or to take a piece further with some on-the-floor devising.

We hope this practice becomes a positive impulse for our artistic community and becomes a much awaited tradition in the years to come.

The G5A season spreads from October to June. For all of us, it signifies rebirth, regeneration, and renewal. During this time, the G5A Warehouse is brimming with creative energy and the excitement of audiences and artists alike!

The Black Box, the Artist’ Tent, the Study, and the Terrace come alive with music, dance, theatre, visual arts, literary arts, multimedia explorations – all creating a space for a quiet immersion and a collective celebration.

We believe it is important to dive deeper into our artistic practice and to continue to nurture our understanding of the nuances that help us discern and create good art. The season is also a time for artists, practitioners, and audiences to come together to dialogue and enhance our own learning, often through practice.

We continue to explore all these and more in person at the Warehouse and on our various digital platforms.

Mission Statement
G5A forum curates, co-creates, and produces interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary work that is bold, experimental, and just. We bring together artists and arts practitioners for dialogues, debates, and conversations around their craft, motivations, aspirations, and response to context. We strongly support and encourage original work that is grounded in form, theory, and practice.
