Baithak – an immersive concert with the Akkarai Sisters
Akkarai Sisters, S Subhalakshmi and S Sornalatha are among India’s most distinguished musicians today, renowned for their soulful music that has won the hearts of music lovers worldwide. They are the disciples of their father, Akkarai Shri S Swamynathan, as well as Shri V Janakiraman, Shri O V Subramanian, Padmabhushan Shri P S Narayanaswamy, and Chitravina N Ravikiran.
The sisters, esteemed as child prodigies, are globally renowned for their exceptional talent in vocal and violin duets, acclaimed collaborations across diverse genres, and Sornalatha’s prowess as a composer in Tamil, Telugu, and Sanskrit. They have performed in countless prestigious venues worldwide, earning recognition as leaders in their field. From mesmerizing vocal and violin performances to enriching collaborations with Hindustani, Jazz, Western Classical, and other musicians, their artistry captivates audiences and transcends cultural boundaries.
They have received numerous accolades, including prestigious awards like Subhalakshmi’s Rajiv Gandhi Yuva Puraskar and Sornalatha’s gold medal from the University of Madras.
