Zende by Akshay M.Shah
Zende follows Madhukar Zende, an 82-year-old retired assistant commissioner of police in Mumbai, who famously captured serial killer Charles Sobhraj twice. Beyond this, his career spanned four decades, showcasing Zende’s eccentric yet effective methods, from parading underworld dons to quelling communal riots. His unwavering humanity and inspiring love story reveal a super-cop’s true heroism from Bombay to Mumbai.
The documentary had its World Premiere at MAMI 2023, followed by its New York Premiere at the New York Indian Film Festival 2024, and an Australian Premiere in August 2024 at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. Recently, it premiered in Chicago at the 15th Chicago South Asian Film Festival, where it won the Runner-Up Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary. The film had its Nepal Premiere at Film Southasia 2024 in November.
