FOR SAMA | MAMI Year Round Programme X G5A Film Society
POSTPONEMENT ALERT: Due to the rising concerns in light of the Corona Virus (COVID 19) becoming a global pandemic, the organisers have decided to postpone the screening to a later date, in the interest of public health & safety. Stay tuned for updates.
We are super excited to host the MAMI Year Round Programme at G5A this year! As part of this series, the MAMI Year Round Programme will bring a set of film screenings, masterclasses and workshops to the G5A Warehouse this season. This association is supported through the G5A Film Society.
We begin with our first film screening of For Sama at the G5A Black Box.
About the film:
For Sama is both an intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war. A love letter from a young mother to her daughter, the film tells the story of Waad al-Kateab’s life through five years of the uprising in Aleppo, Syria as she falls in love, gets married and gives birth to Sama, all while cataclysmic conflict rises around her. Her camera captures incredible stories of loss, laughter and survival as aad wrestles with an impossible choice – whether or not to flee the city to protect her daughter’s life, when leaving means abandoning the struggle for freedom for which she has already sacrificed so much. The film is the first feature documentary by Emmy award-winning filmmakers, Waad al-Kateab and Edward Watts.
Entry free and open to all, limited seats available.
