Should Art 2023 | week 01
Through a concentrated celebration of art and culture, artists and artisans, and our local neighborhood community, we recognize the collaborative spirit of art-making, as well as the importance of our individual, often isolated, artistic journeys.
Immersed in a three-week-long celebration, we present work that is multidisciplinary, experimental, and independent (through performances, conversations, readings, installations, public art, workshops, podcasts, bazaars, and food), visitors, participants, and artists will find wonder, joy, and hope. For the second week of the festival, we are joined by Musician, Activist, and G5A Advisory Council Member, T.M. Krishna, who takes on the role of Resident Curator,
This December, let’s come together to Connect. Create. Celebrate.
2023 Theme: Boundary
Boundary: a word that evokes limit and liberation in the same breadth. This is the realm that our annual culture festival will explore this season. How have we come to define our limits or our liberties? How are we defined by these boundaries and how do we break through them?. Reflective of the turmoil that we are living through, the festival will become a space of slippage where art, artists, and the community will come together to define, redefine, and create a society united in its differences.
Week 01
Should Art 2023 start off celebrating art, and test its boundaries by looking at the questioning and introspective power of art through a week-long immersive installation in the black box. The artistic team of G5A works to transform the black box into a one-of-a-kind desert of light. Through light, sound, and poetry, the black box is both a portal and crucible that invites viewers to examine their individual stories and how each one contributes to the collective histories that form our culture.
