Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM)

About: The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), also known as Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), (formerly the Bombay Municipal Corporation and the Municipal Corporation of Greater Bombay (MCGB) till 1996) is the governing civic body of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra. It was established under the Bombay Municipal Corporation Act 1888. MCGM is responsible for the civic infrastructure and administration of the city and some suburbs.

Role on Project Swachh Worli Koliwada: The MCGM serves as a critical partner for the project in terms of providing infrastructure support and access to civic amenities. They will also lend support with manpower for clean up and management of public spaces, shoreline, and provision of waste management equipment on a regular basis.

The Bank’s interventions are structured in a way that they not only benefit communities directly, but create a ripple effect that sets the tone for long-lasting advantages. The Bank funds programmes that are long-term and use a sustainable approach, which involves multiple stakeholders (civil society, Government bodies, non-profit organisations). The Bank’s partnerships also go beyond funding, to offer advice and guidance on strategy, and implementation of social impact programs on ground. The CSR mission of the Bank focuses on Education, Livelihoods, Women Empowerment, Health and Financial Inclusion.

Role on Project Swachh Worli Koliwada: IDFC FIRST Bank’s involvement in Swachh Worli Koliwada is primarily as a funding partner. In addition to monetary support, the Bank is equally involved in an advisory capacity on strategy and resources. They also lend skills and expertise with support from internal employees, and help mobilize the corporate community and other entities such as foundations, organizations, NGOs, institutions to garner further support on the project.

Earthoholics

About: Earthoholics is an initiative started by Smita D. Shirodkar. Their vision is to sensitise people towards healthy green practices and provide earth-friendly products and services. They work on Urban Agriculture for food security and healthy living, Sustainable Waste Management (with RUR Greenlife Pvt Ltd.), and  help people reduce their carbon foot print.

Earthoholics has encouraged a change in practices and touched lives of more than 1,00,000 people through their green awareness workshops, exhibitions like Nature Bazaar, Urban Farming Show & customized green events like Gardening Gyaan Day for Panasonic Experience Center, Nature Week for Deutsche Bank, Earth Day Celebrations at Phoenix Market City, Seminar at Voltas, Indian Navy (Colaba), NOFRA & many more. Earthoholics aims to do every bit to spread awareness & encourage a smallest change in the way we live so that we all can have a healthy life for ourselves and our ‘Planet Earth’.

Role on Project Swachh Worli Koliwada: Earthoholics is a technical partner for Research, Training and Implementation of the gardening and greening project in the community. With an aim to create awareness about the importance of urban farming, they will be involved in conducting research at the sanctioned sites for environmental conditions and the soil status to evaluate what kind of green plantation can be carried out in Worli Koliwada. Working with and training interested community members on sustainable urban farming practices, Earthoholics will build the infrastructure for urban plantation and greening and beautification at the site as an integral part of the solid waste management project.
