to be here and not be here

Photo Essay by Madhura Srinivas

There have been times in my life where I have found myself between Life and Death.

These images were created when I was moving through spaces.
Sometimes closer to death and sometimes not fully alive.

Those sacred spaces between each breath
Those infinite breaths between sunset and complete darkness
How mist floats over a still lagoon where no human eye can reach
The silence of a flower blooming in plain sight
How the moon whispers

How everything melts away in this liminal space
The boundaries between me and the other
The fragility of my physical body and the resilience of the spirit
Unbearable pain and unbreakable resolve
Wading into mysterious waters where the mind has no place
Where the body remembers; where the heart has a place

And dreams can be steered and stories re-written.

A place where longing is revered
To be here and not be here
This way and that; this truth and that
Where everything belongs and surrender is effortless

to be here and not be here
to be here and not be here
to be here and not be here
to be here and not be here
to be here and not be here
to be here and not be here
to be here and not be here
to be here and not be here
to be here and not be here
to be here and not be here
to be here and not be here
to be here and not be here
