About the Speaker:
Mallika Sarabhai is a trained Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, writer, and social activist. When asked what role she identifies with most, she says ‘Communicator’ She believes that all of these mediums are ways of expression and communication. She began her career as a performing artist and over the years has incorporated sound and visual imagery to her work . In 1977 she took over the leadership of Darpana, an Ahmedabad based performing arts academy, carrying forward the legacy of her mother Mrinalini Sarabhai. She navigated her troupe to festivals around the globe. The primary focus of her choreography remains to convey messages against sexual abuse and child marriage via the medium of dance and movement.
