I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an’ pretend
‘Cause I’ve heard it all before
And I’ve been down there on the floor
And no one’s ever gonna keep me down again
These powerful lyrics by Helen Reddy foreshadows the direction of G5A Cinema House’s upcoming curation. Over the past few years, Indian non-fiction filmmaking has burst into the global scene, garnering praise and accolades alike. Primarily fronted and buoyed by the vision of women, March’s Cinema House will cast a spotlight on such documentaries and shorts.
From the personal as political, to the global political as personal, the preoccupations of these trailblazing filmmakers visibilise the changed vocabulary of Indian non-fiction and how this subverted the rules of filmmaking as a whole.
Join us at the G5A warehouse, from March 29-31, to witness a line-up of films that not just gained global appreciation, but also rethought the boundaries of fiction and non-fiction filmmaking.
