Sujay Saple, Shapeshift Collective
Sujay will talk about his company Shapeshift’s recent works ‘Lullaby, Stranger’ and ‘Do You Want Me To Stay For Anything In Particular?’ – both of which were designed for and performed at G5A’s black box. Created through rigorous collaborations with artists from different disciplines, these two works were hybrid performance-concerts. They were also immersive in nature, decidedly departing from conventional, proscenium-style performance, and also from Shapeshift’s previous productions. With their emphasis on the formal, architectural and design aspects of the performance experience, these works sought to offer new and more participatory roles to their audiences. The G5A black box, with its open spirit, was instrumental to making these experiments possible.
