In this exquisite chamber concert, one of the foremost Sitar and Surbahar Maestros of our times Padma Bhushan Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee presents us with an experience of Hindustani instrumental music at its very best. Time stands still as the late evening to night concert brings alive the lyrical beauty, artistry and finesse of the Sitar and the magnificent Surbahar to audiences. It promises to be an evening with a gamut of emotional and aesthetic registers. The Maestro is joined by Soumen Nandy while playing the Sitar; the rarely performed Surbahar in all its sonorous and stark beauty will be presented sans percussion. Set in the elegant and intimate G5A Black Box, Noir promises to be a memorable evening for all.

Padma Bhushan Pandit Budhaditya Mukherjee has upheld with great distinction the traditions of the Imdadkhani Gharana of Sitar in a career spanning more than five decades. Budhaditya ji received his entire training in Sitar and Surbahar from his illustrious father, Late Pandit Bimalendu Mukherjee, the well known sitarist, Guru and doyen of the Imdadkhani Gharana who initiated his son into sitar from the age of 5. Responding to his father’s profound teachings Budhaditya ji’s music has blossomed into a unique lyrical magic that reflects the ‘gayaki ang’ or vocal quality with sensitive and matchless clarity. The Maestro has dedicated his entire life to the Sitar and is an artiste of rare depth and integrity. He has received several prestigious awards including the Kumar Gandharva Sanman, Sangeet Natak Academy Award, Padma Bhushan and the Rashtriya Kalidas Sanman.
