The Namesake by Mira Nair | Irrfan (1967 – 2020) : A Retrospective
‘Ah, remember it always. Remember that you and I made the journey and went together to a place where there was nowhere left to go.’
This poignant moment between Ashoke Ganguly and his young son Gogol becomes a memory not just for the father and son but everybody who embarked into the world of The Namesake. Mira Nair’s adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri’s bestseller book brings out the collective grief, opportunities and socio-cultural of immigrant families who move away from their homeland in order to make a new world for themselves.
The screening will begin with a book reading of Irrfan : A Life in Movies by Shubra Gupta. Post-screening, Shubhra Gupta will be in conversation with Mira Nair, Sooni Taraporevala and Tabu.
