What do you enjoy most about the process of creating new work, and what recurring challenges do you encounter? – One Take

five questions. multiple perspectives. different artists.

ONE TAKE
is an interview series where we seek to peer into the minds of artists through contemplative questions about their practice, discipline, and journey. Through this series, we endeavour to foster dialogue and engagement with arts practitioners from diverse backgrounds, and offer our audiences a glimpse into their respective processes and perspectives.

“I love the chance to collaborate. As a filmmaker, I love being able to unpack a story with a group of people that are not only able to pull from what’s on the pages of the script, but also what’s unsaid. Often times our ways of interpreting a script or scene can differ and the conversations that arise from that often lead to new questions and new discoveries. Every day of making a film is a challenge, but I think the idea of working with friends to tell a story effectively is incredibly exciting.”

“My process begins with observation. One is constantly exploring and understanding the impact that time, culture, politics and socio-economic conditions have on our visible and invisible surroundings. In this age of visual overload, my work involves filtering, dissecting, documenting and defamiliarising commonly seen subjects through the act of drawing, painting and design. This process is immensely satisfying because as an artist you transform a surface or a medium into something that can emote, evoke a feeling or communicate.”
