Oral Histories
At the heart of Mumbai lies Worli Koliwada – one of the city’s original seven islands – home to the indigenous fishing community known for its authentic fishing techniques, and enterprising and resilient people. Originally inhabited by the Adivasis, Koliwada, over the years has become home to people from various religions, castes, and backgrounds – making the community truly syncretic in nature. Through our Oral Histories series, we work to preserve and document the rich legacy and heritage of this unique precinct. We bring to you the voices and stories of the residents of Koliwada, through interviews, diary entries, photos, videos, and sounds.
